Goodbye, Tonsils!

Since Jack has been having problems with his tonsils (snoring, sickness, etc.), we made the decision to have them removed. We scheduled the surgery and then told Jack what was going to happen. He was a little nervous at first, but by the time the day arrived, he was calm and ready!

The day before the surgery, we had a party for his upcoming adventure. We made a banner and decorated cupcakes to celebrate. Callie had a friend over to play, so she got to help us out.

Jack loved his big banner. He handled everything very well!

Early in the morning, Dad and Jack went off to the hospital to check in. Mom and Luke had to take Callie and Ryan to a friend's house. Jack got some cool PJs to wear, then got to pick out a toy from a big closet full of them. He chose a Nerf football thing. He was pretty excited!

The nurse had Jack practice breathing with the mask. He was supposed to work on blowing bubbles through it so when the time came to get the sleeping gas, he would be breathing properly.

Jack liked having Luke with him. Jack's surgery was delayed one hour, so we had a lot of time to kill.

Jack got pretty good at getting those bubbles going!

After the surgery, Jack was a little woozy, but recovered pretty quickly. Then he had a popsicle, water, and some apple juice.

He wanted Dad to lay down with him on the bed. Luke joined in, too!

One thing we noticed right away after the surgery was Jack was missing one of his front teeth. The doctors were concerned that it would fall out and he would swallow it, so they pulled it out before the surgery! They kept it so Jack was able to put it under his pillow for the Tooth Fairy.

Overall, Jack did better than we ever could have pictured! He was calm, listened to the doctors, did everything he was supposed to do, and has been recovering wonderfully. We've been keeping up with his pain medicine and he has had just a bit of minor discomfort. He's eating bread, fruit, and ice cream, along with lots of juice and water. We are so glad that it is over and that he will sleep better and feel better from now on!

Jackson is a trooper. I am so glad the surgery went well. It is always nice to get things like that taken care of.
