The kids love arts and crafts. Callie, especially, loves to color, cut, glue, tape... basically anything she can create with her hands. We made some sun catchers with little "baking crystals" that we melted into a metal frame. They're called "Makit & Bakit." An unfortunate name, but they're still fun!
We also discovered another kit that allows the kids to make their own bowls. The bowls are not really for eating out of, but for little trinkets and such. The kids worked hard on their designs and carefully poured their plastic bead things into the pans.
It's a two-step process- First the kids made their designs in aluminum pie pans and let them melt flat. Then we took the cooled discs out of the pan and set them on top of some aluminum foil to re-melt into a bowl shape. The second step doesn't take long, so the kids got to watch the bowl form in the oven. They thought it was pretty cool!
Callie wanted her bowl to have pie slices of different colors.
Jack wanted a triangular bowl with a star pattern inside.
The kids were very happy with the finished products! We were lucky enough to have several different colors available to us because we had tons of leftover baking crystals from the Culwell kids, used back in the 80's and 90's. Fun stuff!
